Australia's police have ended the hunt for a four-year-old child who has been missing in the outback for almost twenty-one days, after fresh attempts proved unsuccessful to locate any traces of the boy.

The child was last seen engaging around his residence on a isolated farmland close to Yunta, about a significant distance from Adelaide, on 27 September.

His family member stepped away for about half an hour before checking on him, only to discover the youngster missing, initiating one of the biggest land and air searches in the region's records.

Police - who do not think there was criminal activity - say they will carry on examining, but that the matter has become a "search for recovery".
