"Does the Prince's presence at the summit a publicity move? Certainly. But it doesn't imply it's a poor decision," she commented. "Cop has long been as much about what's termed 'optics' as it is about negotiations. Prince William's decision will almost certainly inspire other leaders to commit, and will capture global media."

"I suspect HRH understands clearly that by participating, he'll bring countless of eyes to the event. In an time when climate impacts are growing, but news reporting is dropping, any effort that highlights the issue should be welcomed."

Support from Climate Organizations

An expert from an environmental thinktank said: "Full participation is needed – and any prominent person like Prince William, in attendance helping argue for the complex task that is required, is likely a positive development."

"[King Charles was in his previous role when he went to the Glasgow summit and pitched in to galvanise negotiations. I don't believe it necessarily needs both of them to participate."

PM's Attendance Still Unconfirmed

The UK's leader has not yet said if he will participate in the meeting, to which every world leaders are expected, with numerous set to attend. The leader was widely condemned by leading climate advocates for showing indecision on the commitment recently.

"World leaders need to be in the summit location for Cop30. Attendance is not merely symbolic, it is a measure of commitment. This is the moment to secure more ambitious national commitments and the finance to implement them, especially for preparedness" to the impacts of the climate crisis.
